The Rural Us Wellbeing Project is led by the North Northumberland Voluntary Forum with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. Created in 2019, its purpose is to alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation caused by rural living. Our catchment extends from Berwick down to Amble, across to Rothbury and back up to the Border.
We believe that no one should be marginalised or overlooked simply because of where they live, therefore it is our mission to work in support of all services and residents with the focus on making connections, removing barriers and providing opportunities for people of all ages to engage in the community to which they belong.
Mapping of statutory and voluntary schemes and groups in every locality is ongoing and we work in partnership with each one. This allows our dedicated Wellbeing Officer to ensure the support we deliver is person centered and tailored to the interests and location of the individual.
Wherever there are gaps we are able to offer encouragement and funding to anyone who would like to set up a group. Following the principles of asset based community development we use the imagination, enthusiasm and experience of the people we meet to ensure that we are both inclusive and sustainable.
